difference between cold runner and hot runner crate moulds

Plastic crates are widely used in agriculture, in our commodity life, in industrial field as a loading tool… Plastic crates material usually is HDPE, PP. For many countries, they prefer to use recycled plastic material for crates, so most of them will apply with cold runner system for plastic crate moulds—big direct injection gate in the center of crate bottom. We also could apply with hot runner system for recycled plastics, we will add filter on each hot runner injection sprue on the mould to avoid any impurity blocking the injection channels.
Normally for hot runner plastic crate moulds, 4 tips hot runner is generally used, sometimes will apply with 5 tips hot runner or 6 tips hot runner for big crates.
You may want to ask what’s the difference between cold runner crate moulds and hot runner crate moulds, here I calculate some of the differences:
1. Cold runner could save hot runner investment, and cold runner is most for recycled plastic material;
2. Hot runner crates will have no runner waste, while cold runner crates will have runner wastes as small tail. So hot runner could save plastic material.
3. For one same crate, the cycle time of cold runner crate mould will be a little longer than hot runner crate mould, but no big difference.
4. The injection pressure of cold runner crate mould will be higher than hot runner crate mould, so the same crate/same steel plastic crate moulds, cold runner mould will have flashes besides injection gate, while hot runner mould have not.
5. Due to the high injection pressure, the cold runner mould life time is shorter than hot runner mould.
