Most molds are use two plate mold, but still have some molds will choose to use three plate mold, do you know why? If you do not know, please check this blog.
What's means of two plate mold--the mold base is consists of a moving mold plate and fixed mold plate. There have some inject ways, such as side gate,directly inject,fan gate,diving into the glue,etc. Then this inject way are called two plate mold.
Then what's means of three plate mold--It also called small nozzle system mold, it only has one inject way--point gate. It is consists of a moving mold plate, fixed mold plate and a movable nozzle stripper plate.
So compare three plate mold and two plate mold, there only one structure different: a movable nozzle stripper plate. That’s why three plate mold cost will higher than two plate mold, Injection pressure is larger, nozzle recovery cost has increased. But why need to use three plate mold?
If you use one gate, it can not only ensure the injection pressure to ensure the size of the product, but also reduce the welding mark of large products (which requiring multiple gates). There do not have inject space in the middle of the product or it is not suitable for the layout of the gate, so multiple gates can only be arranged vertically to the parting surface, and the appearance surface is allowed to have traces of glue injection (the gate is arranged on the product surface), and three plate mold can be used.
Use three plate mold, the gate do not need to cut. It will drop down when the mold open. It will leave a small gate mark on the product surface. Suitable for injection pressure not big, but need high appearance requirements products. You could design the gate in the ideal position, the gate waste will fall down by mold opening, and leave a small mark on the product, of course, the costs will higher than two plate mold.
